The Tesla Cybertruck underwent independent crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States and received the maximum five-star rating.

This contrasts with earlier criticisms labeling it a “death machine,” particularly after fatal accidents occurred shortly after its launch. Tesla claimed that the Cybertruck would be just as safe as its other models, which already have high safety ratings.

In the NHTSA tests, the Cybertruck performed remarkably well: it received a five-star rating for the driver and four stars for the passenger in the frontal crash test, and achieved the highest score in side-impact testing. In the rollover test, simulating a loss of vehicle control, a 12.40% risk was identified, resulting in a four-star rating.

The vehicle is equipped with the same driver-assistance system (ADAS) used in other Tesla models, meeting active safety criteria.

However, pedestrian safety has not been evaluated yet. Experts have raised concerns about potential injuries due to the Cybertruck’s angular design and sharp edges in the event of collisions with pedestrians.

The NHTSA is currently developing new guidelines to ensure the safety of vehicles, not only for occupants but also for all road users.
